Welcome to Yinz Mahj

Hi, I’m Amy—and I’m so glad you’re here.

Yinz Mahj started with something simple: a love for the game of mahjong and the joy of bringing people together around a table. What I didn’t expect was how quickly that love would grow into something bigger—a community, a creative outlet, and now, this space.

Yinz Mahj is here to connect people in Pittsburgh through American mahjong. Whether you’ve been playing for years or have no idea what a bam is (yet), you’re welcome. My goal is to make the game feel approachable, social, and fun—while building something that feels uniquely Pittsburgh.

But before anything else, it’s important to acknowledge something that matters deeply to me.

Mahjong is not new. It is a game with a rich cultural history that originated in China, with roots that go back generations. It has evolved and traveled across communities and continents, taking on different forms while still carrying its origins with it.

As someone building a brand around mahjong, I want to be thoughtful and respectful of that history.

Yinz Mahj is not about reinventing the game or claiming it—it’s about creating a local space where people can gather, learn, and play, while honoring where the game comes from. That means continuing to learn, to listen, and to approach this with care and intention.

It also means being mindful of how we show up—through the language we use, the designs we create, and the community we build.

At its core, mahjong is about connection. It’s about sitting across from people, sharing time, laughing, competing, and coming back again next week.

That’s what I hope Yinz Mahj becomes.
